The release of Nelson Mandela, the end of the political banning of the ANC end other organisations and the information campaign of the South African government contributed world-wide to the emergence of a public opinion that Apartheid in South Africa has already disappeared. But although most of the former apartheid legislation has been removed, South Africa is still a country characterised and influenced by apartheid, which should never has existed. Apartheid will not disappear overnight and the process of transformation into a free, democratic and non-racial society will be faced with many new problems, caused by the ideology of apartheid. We must realise that even with the establishment of a new system of government in South Africa to replace the minority rule, the transformation process will still not be complete or for that matter irreversible. Much will still remain to be done to totally remove apartheid. Apartheid will still be one element of the new post-apartheid system. The many wounds created in the South African society would not be over merely with a new black president and a majority of the ANC within a new government.
